Posted by

Punk hairstyles emerged along with the rise of the popularity of the punk music genre during the 1970s and 1980s. Today, punk hairstyles are worn by many, even though it was originally created to “stand out” and to be different compared to the “in crowd”. Punk hairstyles are pretty universal as it looks good on both men and women, and it often screams “attitude” and hints a rebellious feel to it. Punk hairstyles are not limited to Mohawk only, despite the way media portrays punk fans. These are among the popular punk hairstyles.

Mohawk

The Mohawk, also known as the Mohican is the epitome of all punk hairstyles. Punk followers are often portrayed by the media wearing Mohawk hairstyles on their head. It is named after native Indian tribesman whom the hairstyle is influenced by. To style your hair into a Mohawk, simply cut the sides considerably short compared to the middle thin strip of long hair. For the more daring ones, you could shave off the sides. The strip of hair is then gelled or waxed to make it stand.

Faux Hawk

While Mohawk is the more extreme and daring style, faux hawk is one of the most preferable punk  hairstyles due to its milder nature. Faux literally translated means “false”. This is because anyone could pull of a faux hawk without cutting or shaving the sides short, but needs to know ways to style the top part of the hair to make it spiky and stand up.

Layered Emo-Punk Hairstyles

Emo is another sub genre which originates from and heavily influenced by punk. Layered emo-punk hairstyles are suitable for women who wants to have an attitude defining hairstyle, but at the same time keep their long locks. The layers of hair are often colored with huge contrast of shading difference, and more extreme ones include multiple colors.

Extreme Highlights and Coloring

For those who do not want to cut their hair and would prefer to keep their hair in its original state, but wants to don popular and stylish punk hairstyles, opt for the extreme highlights and coloring fashion. Punk hairstyles are often colored with bright colors such as bleach blond, striking red, pink, blue, green or purple.

Punk hairstyles could be quite fashionable if you know which style suits your face shape and style the best. There are many more styles like the liberty spikes, spiky hair, and others, but these are the few punk hairstyles which looks good and stylish and still in trend.
